![]() But this is early days and the dream of Ridge Racer VR is already here because it's about 95% perfect already. When you switch to true 3D the game may be too demanding and things stutter. Some games work well in 2D, using the screen as a wraparound (think of those IMAX simulators at the fair). So what games would you hope work well? It's at this point in your journey that you cross you fingers and play Ridge Racers, Outrun 2, Burnout Legends. It's got real stereoscopic 3D as of this latest update. Results vary massively on a game by game basis, but as a proof of concept it's fucking incredible and I cannot recommend you try this enough. Space Invaders Extreme becomes an unplayable mess in VR, but looks amazing in regular cinema size mode. So what's this all about? It's basically the PSP emulator but when you go into a 3D environment it makes it all VR. Most of these are just Android emulators like you play of a phone or tablet, but some have VR options.Īnd this brings us to a new, unofficial build of PPSSPP, the PSP emulator, which now has a brilliant full 3D version. It's great.Īnd of course, you can also explore the world of Android based emulation and try out whatever you find by importing it to your headset using SideQuest. The 3D of the Virtual Boy really works and the Gameboy appears in the air in a room in front of you, like you're holding it. Moving on, Sidequest has a Gameboy Emulator and a fully 3d Virtual Boy Emulator already built in. You can pair a regular Bluetooth controller and stand on it like on the original Playstation. Time Crisis not so much, because the reload button is on screen and you have to shoot it with the other controller. Point Blank plays really well because it doesn't use the reload button. And after all those years playing Point Blank on projection screens, who knew you can actually make the screen too big? But you can expand the emulator by dragging a corner of the virtual screen before you load your room/iso. The Android EPSXE works perfectly on the Quest 2, but crashes if you try to make the virtual screen larger whilst you're playing a game. You can of course pair a bluetooth controller to the headset, but for lightgun games you can select "Namco Gun" in the options and use your quest controller to aim and fire. So for example, go internet hunting, and download and install the PlayStation emulator EPSXE for Android in APK format, send it from PC to Headset using Sidequest, copy across your Time Crisis and Point Blank isos that you made from your legally owned CDs and Bob's your uncle. ![]() One of the options in the advanced version (hover your mouse over the icons) is to install an APK from your PC to the headset. Step 2 - Install ADB drivers to your PC from Oculus site: Step One - Change your Meta / Facebook / Oculus account to DEVELOPER: You also need to be a developer to do this but that's a couple of clicks on the Oculus site - it's 2 minutes work. Remember, because the guides don't tell you this, you want to install the ADVANCED version of Sidequest to your PC. This process forms the basis of all emulation and loading of non-Oculus/Meta/Facebook software, so it's a good place to start. This lets you sideload games directly to the headset. I recommend starting with the installation of a PC programme called SideQuest. I have had really good fun with Virtual Boy and Gameboy games, Playstation games (using the controller as a gun with Point Blank) and now, a proof of concept for PSP, that has blown me away because I've pretty much just been playing Burnout and Outrun 2 in a simulated VR and it's every bit as good as it should be, even at such an early stage.īut then a new version of the PSP emulator has added an experimental 3D stereoscopic view, runs in genuine VR and on the games where it works (Riiiidge Raaaaceeer!) It's a marvel. And there's a whole load of fantastic stuff out there. So I bought a Quest 2, and it's me so I've been experimenting with emulators. Remember to select the settings in the PSP emulator to 3D stereoscopic, VR on and upscale the resolution to 4x. If you're here for ridge Racer, do read the thread.
